Johnson, Lozada divorce on track

Chad Johnson creates interest wherever he goes, which is why people from Louisiana and throughout the U.S. are intrigued by the latest twist in his divorce case.

Johnson, the former NFL wide receiver, has filed to respond to his wife’s petition for divorce. His wife, Evelyn Lozada, filed for divorce last month after just 40 days of marriage. She sought the divorce after Johnson allegedly head-butted her after she asked questions about something potentially incriminating that she found. Police arrested him on a charge of misdemeanor battery following their altercation.

Their divorce is expected to be a quick one since they reportedly signed a 40-page prenuptial agreement before their marriage. The one point they dispute is who will pay the legal fees. She reportedly wants Johnson to pay, while Johnson wants the judge to enforce the prenuptial agreement. They reportedly agreed beforehand that in case of divorce, they would receive the bills for their own fees.

Johnson had delayed filing his response, apparently hoping to get back together with Lozada. Trying to sway her, he had the likeness of her face tattooed on his leg.

The marriage isn’t the only thing that is over for Johnson and Lozada. The two had starred in a reality show, “Ev and Ocho,” that aired on VH1 network. VH1 canceled it following his arrest.

Johnson used his Twitter account to defend Lozada after a follower sent a note to him contending that Lozada and ruined his life and his reputation. He responded that he took the blame, saying he had destroyed the marriage, not Lozada.

Lozada had made it clear that their marriage was irretrievably broken. Johnson moving ahead with the paperwork was the response she had hoped for, and he paved the way for a more amicable split by doing so.

While many couples feel that a prenuptial agreement deters from the premarital excitement prior to the wedding, it can save both spouses a lot of frustration later on if their marriage ends. A prenuptial agreement helps couples protect any assets they bring into the marriage or acquire together later on. It is also a helpful tool for couples to ensure that the best interests of the children are met.
