What are the most common reasons people seek a divorce?

Married couples in Louisiana take their wedding vows seriously and plan to be together for the rest of their lives. However, some things happen that can damage a marriage and, in some cases, lead to divorce.

Domestic violence

One of the top reasons for marriages to end in divorce is domestic violence. Constantly being broken down physically and mentally by your spouse can easily result in a trip to divorce court. No one should have to suffer at the hands of an abuser, and a spouse is the one who’s supposed to love and protect you, so this is a good reason to divorce.

Constant arguing

All married couples argue from time to time, but it’s another story when it’s constant. If you and your spouse are constantly arguing about the same issues over and over again, it can irretrievably break down your relationship. If options such as couples counseling can’t help or your spouse is unwilling to even try it, you might have no choice but to get divorced.

Financial difficulties

Some married couples end up in divorce because of finances. If you and your spouse are unable to get on the same page about how to spend, save or split your money or handle debt, it can damage your marriage. Many couples fight over these and other financial issues because they become a sore spot that causes a power struggle.

Extramarital affairs

Trust is a huge thing in all marriages, so if one spouse carries on an extramarital affair, it can break that trust and easily end in divorce. While this usually occurs when a person has cheated multiple times with one or more people, some are unable to stay in their marriage even after a one-night stand. When the bonds of trust are broken, there’s no longer a basis for a marriage.

Choosing to get a divorce is never something reached lightly. If you and your spouse can’t seem to work things out or it’s not worth it anymore, it might be your only option.
